Grow A Colony War and Colony PvP
Declare war, command Majors and Drones, and survive twelve-player server politics.
Grow A Colony is not a single-player anthill. Servers host up to 12 players, each commanding a queen with Workers, Majors (Soldiers), and Drones (Tanks). Colony war and broader PvP let you raid neighbors for ants and food, erase careless bases, or defend digs you spent hours carving. Wars tie together every other system — Food and Water reserves, Eggs and Ants ratios, Dig and Build chokes, Skill Tree combat nodes, and PvE prep from Beat Bugs and Bosses. This guide explains when to declare war, troop order discipline, comp basics, and how to rebuild after defeat.

What colony war means
War is organized PvP between player colonies — distinct from accidentally aggroing bugs. Typical elements (exact UI labels may shift per Updates):
- Declare war on a rival queen/colony through in-game prompts near borders or diplomacy menus.
- Attack orders drive Majors and Drones into enemy tunnels, ants, and storage.
- Spoils may include food and ant capture or loot depending on patch rules — treat spoils as bonus, not guaranteed income.
- Attrition kills ants on both sides; food reserves decide who can re-hatch faster.
Wars are optional but ever-present on public servers — even if you avoid declaring, neighbors may not.
Preconditions before declaring
Do not declare because a YouTube thumbnail said so. Checklist:
- Food storage — full or near-full with post-war buffer planned.
- Water routes secured for Workers rebuilding economy.
- Army comp — minimum one Drone per two Majors; see Eggs and Ants.
- Choke defenses — single-file Drone gate from Dig and Build.
- Queen safety — vault with backup exit; queen on Follow retreat path rehearsed.
- Scout intel — enemy Worker count, surface vs deep storage, online activity.
If you fail spider PvE in Beat Bugs and Bosses, you are not ready for player Majors.
Troop orders in war
Three orders define battles:
Follow
- Rally ants to queen or forward rally tile.
- Use for retreats, regrouping after a choke breach, or pulling Workers out of enemy storage rooms.
- Queen should Follow backward through backup tunnel while fighters hold outer gate.
Scavenge
- Workers only during war — attempt enemy food theft if safe, otherwise Scavenge home zones to fund re-hatch.
- Never leave Workers on Scavenge in active crossfire without Drone escort.
Attack
- Majors and Drones push enemy lines.
- Drones enter first; Majors focus enemy Drone then Majors then Workers.
- Stagger Attack waves so all Drones do not die same frame to focus fire.
Mis-orders lose wars faster than bad comps.
Standard war comp and deployment
Opening push:
- Two Drones Attack into enemy choke.
- Four Majors Attack behind, same target priority.
- Workers Follow at queen or Scavenge rear zones if safe.
- Reinforcement batch hatched pre-war waits on Follow inside barracks wing.
Mid-fight reinforcements:
- Refresh Drones before Majors if tank line breaks.
- Do not hatch mid-war unless storage overflows — hatching consumes time and food during critical minutes.
Skill tree combat nodes from Update 5.2 amplify this comp — read Skill Tree for PvP bias paths.
Offensive strategy
- Target storage tunnels to famine enemies faster than killing every Major.
- Collapse weak surface entrances with dig tools if the game allows combat building — forces reroutes.
- Focus enemy Workers when you lead numbers — kill economy, win long wars.
- Coordinate allies on 12-player servers if temporary truces exist — but betrayal is common.
Avoid tunnelling straight into a veteran’s Drone stack without scout info.
Defensive strategy
- Choke layering — outer bait tunnel, inner Drone gate, queen vault deepest.
- Counter-Attack only when enemy Drones are dead and your food can replace losses.
- Ambush rally — Majors on Follow behind door block; open when enemy Workers overextend.
- Chat diplomacy — buy time to hatch reinforcements (not binding, but useful).
Update 5.3 fairness helps new defenders slightly — still lose if food-empty.
Twelve-player server politics
Not every neighbor is at war simultaneously:
- Power vacuums appear when two top colonies fight — third parties loot.
- Temporary truces during Queen Bee raids sometimes happen — loot stealing breaks truces instantly.
- Spawn proximity wars start Day 1 — dig away from spawn clusters early per Getting Started.

PvP vs PvE priority
| Situation | Priority |
|---|---|
| Food red, neighbor neutral | PvE farm bugs, not war |
| Food full, weak neighbor scouting you | Defensive choke + warning |
| Food full, weak neighbor afk | Optional quick raid |
| Queen Bee event live | PvE unless war mandatory |
| Skill tree combat invested | PvP when intel good |
Balanced queens run PvE weekdays, PvP weekends when active players online.
After war: rebuild loop
Loss hurts — rebuild systematically:
- Follow all survivors home — regroup count.
- Workers Scavenge only until food green.
- Hatch Workers to restore income (Food and Water).
- Hatch one Drone, then Majors in pairs.
- Reseal digs — enemies may know backup routes.
- Daily reward + safe bug farms before re-declaring.
Do not rage-declare rematch while food-red — double losses bankrupt colonies.
Ethics, scams, and scripts
Legit war uses in-game declare and troop orders. Avoid:
- Exploit glitches to phase through blocks.
- Scripts automation that risks Roblox bans.
- Fake truce bait to spawn-kill new queens repeatedly — invites report storms even if technically “PvP.”
Promo codes do not grant war supplies — Codes lists none active anyway.
War checklist (print mentally)
- Food + water buffer
- Drone/Major comp ready
- Chokes tested vs spiders
- Queen escape rehearsed
- Scout report on enemy
- Reinforcement eggs pre-hatched or food to hatch fast
- Tier List comp matches current meta

Colony war is where Grow A Colony earns its sandbox reputation. Prepare food, trust your Drones, and declare only when your queen can afford the consequences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Grow A Colony on Roblox.
How do you declare war in Grow A Colony?
Use in-game war or diplomacy prompts near rival colonies — exact UI may vary by update. Prepare food, Drones, and chokes first per this War and PvP guide.
How many players can fight on one server?
Up to 12 players share a server, each with a colony. Multiple wars can overlap — scout before committing Attack orders.
What troop order should Majors use in war?
Attack for pushes, Follow for retreats and regrouping. Keep Workers on Scavenge or Follow — never frontline gatherers in combat.
Do you lose ants and food in PvP?
Wars cause ant deaths and may let winners loot food or ants depending on patch rules. Stock reserves using Food and Water before declaring.
When should new players avoid PvP?
Until food is stable, you have Drones and Majors, and chokes are dug. Follow Getting Started and clear Beat Bugs and Bosses first.
