Grow A Colony Creatures

What the undergrowth tags actually mean — PvE bugs versus paid bee and hornet unlocks.

Last updated:

Creatures and Insects

The Roblox description for Grow A Colony tells you to defeat Bugs, Creatures, and Colonies for more ants and food. Tags list spider, bee, wasp, mantis, termite, hornet-class hive life, and Grounded-style undergrowth. This page sorts those words into wild PvE, raid set-pieces, and Store unlocks so you do not confuse a Queen Bee Raid with the paid Queen Bee (Perm) pass.

Combat roles still come from eggs: Workers gather, Majors damage, Drones tank — see Eggs and Ants and the Bugs and bosses tier list. Creatures are the targets and optional unlocks, not a fourth egg line.

Wild bugs (inner ring)

Common insects are your first PvE. They teach Attack orders and drop food/ants without needing a raid UI. Pull them away from your tunnel mouth. If Workers are on Scavenge in the same patch, you will feed the bugs your economy. Beat Bugs and Bosses is the fight walkthrough; this page is the bestiary frame.

Spiders

Spiders are the classic “do not tunnel into this” threat: they punish open surface nests and lazy Follow balls. Scout with a cheap Worker, then send Majors with a Drone sponge. Do not bring the queen. Layout mistakes that invite spiders are covered in Nest Layout.

Bees, wasps, hornets

Hive insects sit in two buckets:

Wild / raid bees — the Queen Bee encounter is a timed or triggered fight that rewards colony growth if you prep food and a retreat path. Read Queen Bee Raid before you wander into a hive hungry.

Paid unlocks — the Store sells Queen Bee (Perm) (199 Robux, “grants the bee”) and Hornet (perm) (299 Robux, “grants the hornet”). Those are catalog facts from sebcaddy1’s gamepasses (see Gamepasses). They are not a substitute for learning wild hive fights. Free players still complete creature objectives.

Wasps in the tag list behave as aggressive flyers in the mid ring. Treat them like spiders with more vertical threat: choke them at a hole rather than chasing across the Map.

Mantises

Mantises are tagged as high-threat arthropods. Expect longer fights that demand Drone uptime and Attack discipline. If your skill tree from 5.2 has unused combat nodes, spend them before a mantis pull — Skill Tree. 5.3 fairness helps new queens survive early bugs; it does not make a mantis a tutorial dummy.

Termites and other colony insects

Termite tags signal other hive-like AI, not “free friends.” They can contest food patches. Scout, then decide whether the calorie reward beats the troop loss. Colony-vs-colony PvP is still player queens — do not confuse NPC termites with War and PvP.

Rewards logic

The official loop is: defeat bugs/creatures/colonies → more ants and food → more eggs and skills. That is why How to Get More Ants and How to Get Food point at PvE. Scripts that auto-farm bugs (Auto Farm) skip the learning and risk bans; they also break after patches.

Suggested creature ladder

  1. Inner bugs with 1 Major
  2. Spider / wasp packs with Major + Drone
  3. Queen Bee raid with a vault to retreat to
  4. Mantis / far-ring hunts after economy skills
  5. Optional Store bee/hornet if you still want them after the ladder

Claim Daily Rewards so you are not buying 2X Food just to recover from a wiped creature pull.

When the description adds a new creature name, this bestiary will gain a section. Until then, play the tags you already have and keep the queen behind a choke.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Grow A Colony on Roblox.

What creatures are in Grow A Colony?

Official tags include spiders, bees, wasps, mantises, and termites, plus bug packs and colony fights. Paid Queen Bee Perm and Hornet Perm are Store unlocks, not the whole bestiary.

Is Queen Bee a raid or a gamepass?

Both exist. The raid is a PvE encounter. Queen Bee (Perm) is a 199 Robux pass that grants the bee. Do not mix them up.

Do I need the Hornet pass to fight hornets?

No. Hornet (perm) grants a hornet unit. Wild hive fights still happen for free players. See Gamepasses and Queen Bee Raid.

Which creature should I fight first?

Small bugs, then spiders or wasps with a Major and Drone, then Queen Bee raid. Mantises later. Follow Beat Bugs and Bosses.

Do creature kills replace Worker eggs?

They feed ants and food that buy eggs. You still hatch Workers first. See Eggs and Ants and How to Get More Ants.
