How the undergrowth is laid out — surface forage, water, raids, and where to hide the queen.

Undergrowth Map Guide

Grow A Colony is an undergrowth sandbox, not a numbered open-world with fast travel pins. Official tags include forest floor, hive, swarm, Grounded-style survival, and tree — you play a queen moving through leaf litter while AI ants work. This map guide explains layers (surface vs nest), resource neighborhoods, and danger rings so you can plan routes without a datamined minimap. Pair it with Nest Layout for underground geometry and How to Play for the session loop.

There is no official Trello map. We do not invent biome names sebcaddy1 never published. Use what the game shows: food pickups, water drink spots, bug packs, creature dens, and other player nests on a 12-player server.

Layer 1 — Surface forage

The surface is where Workers on Scavenge earn the colony. Food icons, scraps, and insect corpses appear in the open. Stay close to a tunnel mouth until you have Majors. Long surface marches with the queen invited to every pickup are how spiders and rival scouts find you.

Route ideas:

  • Short petal — exit, grab the nearest food cluster, return through the same hole.
  • Water detour — if thirst warnings fire, cut the petal to include a drink spot before eggs. Details in Food and Water.
  • Night-style caution — even if lighting is stylized, treat far fog as unknown: scout with Follow Workers, not the queen.

Layer 2 — Nest volume

Underground is your real map. Dig chambers for the queen, pantry, and egg space. A nest that opens as a vertical shaft onto the busiest surface path is a welcome mat for War and PvP. Put the throne off-axis; keep one choke Majors can hold. Dig and Build covers tools; this page only cares about where those tools point.

Layer 3 — Bug and creature rings

PvE threats live in rings around your start:

RingTypical contentWhen to enter
InnerSmall bugs, light foodAfter first Workers
MidDenser packs, spiders, waspsAfter 1–2 Majors
FarQueen Bee raid space, hornet-class fights, rival flagsAfter vault + skills

Exact spawn names vary by session. Use Creatures and Beat Bugs and Bosses for troop mix. Do not pull a mid-ring pack through your only tunnel while Workers Scavenge behind you.

Other colonies as map features

Enemy nests are moving points of interest. A quiet neighbor can become a war target after they hatch Drones. Scout flags from cover. Do not build flush against another queen’s mound — that is how accidental wars start. How to Protect the Queen assumes you left space.

Water and raid landmarks

Water is a landmark even without a named lake. Bookmark drink animations relative to your hole. Raid timers (Queen Bee) are landmarks in time more than space — prep on Queen Bee Raid so you are not crossing the whole surface hungry.

Skill tree and map control

Update 5.2 skills that speed forage or dig change how large a petal you can run. 5.3 fairness helps new queens survive inner-ring mistakes; it does not make far-ring raids free. Spend points with the Skill Planner before you claim a bigger slice of the undergrowth.

Optional paid map power

Gamepasses such as 2X Food stretch surface petals; Hornet / Queen Bee Perm change what you can contest in far rings. None of them draw a better map. Vision cheats in Scripts (ESP, Fly, Noclip) are bans waiting to happen and are not a mapping tool.

Session mapping habit

  1. Screenshot or remember your hole relative to a mushroom, root, or rock.
  2. Run one petal, dump food, drink.
  3. Expand the petal only after a Major escorts.
  4. Mark mentally where another queen’s scouts appeared.
  5. End the session with the Colony Checklist.

When sebcaddy1 adds named biomes, this page will name them. Until then, play the undergrowth as three layers and you will not get lost — you will get fed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Grow A Colony on Roblox.

Is there a Grow A Colony interactive map?

No official interactive map or Trello map exists. Use surface petals, nest vaults, and creature rings described in this Map guide.

Where should I build my nest on the map?

Off the busiest surface path, with one choke. See Nest Layout and Dig and Build rather than building in the open.

Where is water on the Grow A Colony map?

Water is a drink landmark near forage routes, not a labeled fast-travel pin. Food and Water explains the thirst loop.

Do other players show on the map?

You share a 12-player undergrowth. Treat foreign nests as moving hazards. War and PvP covers when to engage.

Does the skill tree change the map?

It changes how far you can safely forage and dig, not the layout itself. Plan nodes on the Skill Tree guide before stretching routes.
