Grow A Colony Skill Planner

A session checklist for skill tree points — economy first, combat second, paid 2X Points last.

Skill Planner

This skill planner is a manual checklist for the Update 5.2 skill tree in Grow A Colony. It is not an in-game calculator and not a script. Use it with the Skill Tree guide and the Skills tier list. Update 5.3 made early play fairer; it did not tell you which node to click. The cheapest Store multiplier, 2X Points (39 Robux), only helps if this plan already makes sense — see Gamepasses.

Before you spend a single point

  1. Food meter stable (Food and Water).
  2. At least three Workers on Scavenge (Troop Orders).
  3. A vault exists (Nest Layout).
  4. You know whether this session is economy, PvE, or war (Builds).

If those fail, close the tree. Points in combat leaves on a starving nest are wasted.

Default spend order (free players)

StepGoalWhy
1Forage / carry / hatch-value economy nodesWorkers fund every egg
2Dig or build speed if your choke is still clayLayout is safety
3Major damage or Drone toughnessBugs and spiders
4Raid / war leavesOnly with a pantry
5Luxury or cosmetic-feeling nodesAfter the colony prints food

Exact node names can shift in hotfixes. If the UI label does not match this table, keep the intent: calories, then dirt, then teeth.

New-player path after 5.3

Fairness changes mean you can recover from a bad first hour. Still spend like a poor queen: economy first. Do not buy Upgrade All Stats (399 Robux) to skip the planner unless you already understand what “all stats” will erase from the learning curve.

2X Points sessions

If you own 2X Points:

  • Run the same order, just faster.
  • Dump points at login so they do not sit unspent (Colony Checklist).
  • Do not open extra war fronts just because points arrive quicker — War and PvP still deletes nests.

PvE vs PvP forks

Creature night (Creatures, Queen Bee Raid): after economy, take combat nodes before you walk to a hive.

War night: after economy, take durability and troop power, then declare war. A skill-rushed Attack blob with no choke still loses.

End-of-session audit

  • Unspent points? Spend or write why you wait.
  • Did a node feel dead? Note it and re-read the Skills tier list after the next Updates bump.
  • Scripts that auto-spend (Auto Farm) will mis-click after patches. Spend by hand.

Print this table or keep the tab open. The tree is the 5.2 headline; the planner is how you refuse to waste it.

Worked example (one login)

You spawn, claim Daily Rewards, confirm Workers are on Scavenge, and the pantry is not empty. Open the tree. If you have four unspent points, put three into the best economy node you can still afford and one into dig speed if last session’s choke felt slow. Do not split one point into four leaves. Then run a short Map petal. If bugs delete a Major, spend the next points on combat only after food recovers. That single login is the whole planner: intent, spend, test, adjust.

Returning after a week? Read Version History first. If the description is still 5.3, your old economy-first plan still applies. If a future 5.4 reworks nodes, this checklist stays valid at the intent layer even when labels change.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Grow A Colony on Roblox.

What should I upgrade first in the Grow A Colony skill tree?

Economy nodes that help food, carry, or hatches. Then dig speed, then combat. See this Skill Planner and the Skill Tree guide.

Does 2X Points change the spend order?

No. It doubles the rate. Buy it only after the nest eats. Gamepasses lists the 39 Robux price.

Should new players buy Upgrade All Stats instead of planning?

No. That 399 Robux pass skips learning. Update 5.3 already helps new queens. Use this planner.

Is this planner an official in-game tool?

No. It is a fan checklist. All clicks still happen in Roblox.

When do I take war skills?

After food and a vault. War and PvP plus a combat build should agree before you spend those leaves.
